Today was the first day of the Paris Haute-Couture shows, with one of the most important fashion house as the opener of the week, the house of Dior.

This year John Galliano decided to move the show to the salons at the headquarters of Dior in the Avenue Montaigne, where Christian Dior himself showed his designs in the decade that made him famous, the 50's.

For this collection, Galliano was inspired by Monsieur Dior, influenced by photographs taken during the backstage of the shows during the 1950s, showing Christian Dior dressing the models with beautiful satin skirts and their upper bodies only covered by pretty little bustiers.

With this sensual mix the strong influence of the essence of the brand and its creator is very clear mixed with the audacity that John breaths into the house every year, with the New Look and elegant feminine undergarments, Christian Dior opened the Haute-Couture shows for the fall 2009 season, giving us a tongue-in-cheek peek of what a housewife in 1953 might have looked like while getting dressed to go to a cocktail or a ball.

But others will say...
The change of location to the old salons of the brand and the subtraction of the gaudiness and decadence that the shows were beginning to be associated with is a direct result of the social-economic turmoil that the world is going thru, and this "trend" of going back to the roots of the brand, is it just another way of saying cut-backs? Shows without the lights, without the heart pounding music, without the glamorous catwalk, going back to the original salons and on top of it all looking as if he didn't have enough money to finish the other half of the ensembles... But no matter what happens, Dior will be Dior and fashion will still be fashion. God help John.
